It wasn't just a figment of your imagination, it is fig week over here at Chasing Saturdays. We just got a late start! Figs are in season, and like Jamie said, we have been gobbling them up like crazy. We like them in our oatmeal in the morning, and in our vodka in the evening. Yep, you read that right - here is a simple recipe to infuse vodka with figs. We'll put the fig vodka to good use tomorrow in a cocktail!
Start with 24 ounces of Vodka. (We bought a bottle of Tito's Vodka and poured some of it out, saving it for a different use.) Then add 12 or so dried Black Mission figs to the vodka. We simply plopped them right into the bottle instead of combining them in a separate container. It made everything so much easier. Some bigger figs took a little squeezing, but most fit through the bottle opening perfectly, although you can slice them in half if you need to. Screw the cap back on and refrigerate for 2 days, letting the figs infuse the vodka. It should turn brown in color.
Strain the vodka and put it back in an airtight container. It will last refrigerated for 3 weeks.
Tomorrow, I will continue to make you groan with more fig puns and we'll mix up a cocktail called the Figa. In the meantime, you can whip up a Fig Martini. Next, I want to try a fig infused bourbon for a Fig Old Fashioned.
