Looking to salute your country in refreshing summer style? This shandy is a perfect July 4th beverage. It's a good old classic beer - with the lovely addition of sparkling lemony Sprite, making it extra thirst-quenching and dainty on the alcohol level, A.K.A. perfect for sipping on all day. Shandy's are popular in Europe, especially Britain. On that side of the pond, they call it "lemonade," which refers to a lemony soda. Here, you can swap in Sprite, 7up, or ginger ale. Some people use American lemonade or orange juice - in which case I'd add a splash of seltzer. In other words, you can mix it up pretty much any way you want. Like all good summery beverages, a Shandy is laid back and simple and open to interpretation.
A light beer is the traditional choice, but grab any brew you favor, and mix it with the soda of your choice. 50/50 is a good ratio to start with...then adjust it to your tastes. Try making this DIY confetti popper or last year's sparkler holder to add some extra festivity to your gathering. Now light a sparkler and enjoy your Fourth!
