During the lazy days of summer, you just want to...well...be lazy! So when it comes to summertime cocktails I often like to keep things really simple. On a Friday evening after a long work week, the last thing I want to do is shop for ingredients, juice limes, muddle, or shake- I'm just too beat. I recently discovered the perfect drink for Friday at 5 p.m - Lillet over ice. It's incredibly simple, yet so refreshing. It's perfect to have right at the end of the workday since there is no work required other than pouring, and it's an aperitif so you won't be sauced by dinner time. Its floral notes and smooth taste ease you into the weekend. I find myself slowly unwinding with each sip.
(I might add that as I unravel with each sip I hum "Lillet on ice, Lillet on ice" to the tune of "cigars on ice" from Beyoncé's "Drunk in Love")
Lillet comes in three different varieties - blanc, rouge, and rosé- and all are great over ice. Here, we used blanc and threw in an orange slice for garnish. If you have any citrus lying around, they compliment the drink well. Sometimes I grab a sprig of mint from my garden if I'm sipping Lillet Rosé.
If you do have a burst of energy, or if later in the evening you feel like having a stronger drink, try out our Spring Fling cocktail from our spring gathering last year. Otherwise, save the mixology for a Saturday and just kick back and let the past week fade away.
