Seeing as how Marisa's due date is now less than two weeks away (!!) and tonight is a full moon (a good excuse for a birthday, if you ask me), it seems like a good time to show some details from the celestial-themed baby shower that her sisters and I threw for her in January. We love a good theme party around here, and we're always drawn to all things celestial. The cosmos lends the perfect dreamy backdrop for a baby shower (and would make a cute 1st birthday, too). It's sweet but not too cutsie, and the moon and constellations make for meaningful details - the minuscule stars are delicate and shimmery, but the vastness of the universe is as timeless and grand as motherhood itself. Marisa and I usually collaborate on creative things together, so it's very hard to plan a party for her without her trying to butt in...I'm sorry, did I say butt in? I meant to help with the work and get involved! But I think we were able to keep some details under wraps so that the day held a few surprises for her.
Sources for the decorations I didn't make are at the bottom of this post. Later I'll be posting instructions for how to make the star garland shown here as well as a constellation tablecloth below, and tomorrow, the moon-and-stars playlist and mocktail recipe!
I drew these illustrations and made posters to hang above the food table. You can purchase copies of them at Society6 in a variety of sizes (and as phone cases, too!).
We kept the punch non-alcoholic for Marisa's sake...but encouraged guests to spike theirs with gin or prosecco, both delicious choices if you ask me. We'll post the full recipe tomorrow!
Of course, the real stars of any shower are the lovely ladies who join you to celebrate. There's something really nice about getting a roomful of women together, old and new friends and family alike, to support you through one of life's biggest (/craziest/most awesome) milestones.
I wish I had a photo of the adorable favors that Marisa's sister put together. She made handmade seasonal star charts, and included chocolate stars and temporary tattoos! Maybe we can get her to guest post with how-to instructions in the future...
My daughter, Vivi, made off with a favor of her own.
All in all, it was a lovely day, and now I can't wait for Marisa's little starlet to be born, already, so I can squeeze her in person.
