While Jamie is frolicking in Barbados right now, we are left behind to get through this bitter cold Friday! I imagine Jamie is gossiping with RiRi over Mai Tais on the beach, as we speak. Since we can't join them, here is a cocktail that is strong enough to warm you from the inside out, and delicious enough that you'll drink your way to blasting Rihanna at your own private dance party in your knickers. What's that you say? That's not what people do on Friday nights? Hmm...
While apricots are not particularly in season, the bourbon and sage give this drink a wintery, warming feel, and the usage of jam makes it possible to enjoy any time of the year! The apricot and sage pair perfectly together - sweet and savory at its best! I adapted the cocktail from this Maker's Mark recipe, but removed the Limoncello to keep it seasonal. I can't wait to try the summery version during peak apricot season this August! If this version is too strong for your taste, just top it with some soda water.
Apricot, Sage and Bourbon
- 1.5 ounces of Bourbon
- 1 or 2 apricots, pitted and quartered
- 4 sage leaves
- 1.5 teaspoons of all-natural apricot jam
- Juice of 1 lemon
In cocktail shaker muddle the fresh apricot and sage until juicy and fragrant. Add jam, lemon juice bourbon and ice. Shake well.
Strain into coup glass or jam glass and garnish with fresh sage leaf.
(Top with soda water if you want a lighter version)
Cheers to Friday night dance parties in warm apartments!
