Okay, this isn't a foolproof method by any means, but as someone who struggles to get their baby to nap, I found this simple trick super useful lately, so I thought I'd share! You know at the end of yoga class when the whole class says "ohmmmm" together? Next time you are rocking or consoling a crying baby, try a long and low "ohmmmmmmmm." Not only is it super soothing to the baby who feels your vibrations as you snuggle them close, but it's also super calming for you. Tell me I'm not the only one who starts with a calm "shhh shhh shh" and ends up super tense and frustrated, bouncing up and down nearly shouting "SHHH!!"? With the "ohm" I almost never get tense (even when it fails) and it's been making the nap time struggle a little more zen and a little less frazzled!
It also sometimes helps with nursing too, which I also struggle with! A single ohm sometimes calms both me and Evie down, making us both relaxed enough to nurse.
Again, the key word here is sometimes! This isn't a surefire trick, but a great one to add to your repertoire. Yesterday, I ohm-ed until I couldn't ohm anymore and finally gave up, marking it as a nap time fail. Do you have any tricks to soothe babies? I'd love to hear them and try them out! I'll try anything!
p.s. I wish I had known about this trick back when we took these photos when Evie was just 2 months old! She spent most of the shoot screaming like the first photo.
