Sorry, folks, I'm one of those irritatingly perky Valentine's people. I know, I know, it's over-commercialized and sappy...and a boring annoyance for people who aren't romantically involved at the time. But I'm a sucker for a celebration. And while I don't consider myself a girly girl in the pink-and-purple kind of way, I do actually like cutting hearts out of doilies, what can I say. Valentine's Day doesn't have to all be about cheesy romance...for the past 35 years, my best Valentine has always been my mom, the one who has instilled in me the value of celebrating what you can whenever you can. She STILL sends me a card (always sealed with a heart sticker) and a gift AND chocolate every year (I guess my holiday enthusiasm is genetic).
Anyway, if you're down for embracing it (and I say, just go for it...it's a long winter, after all) - now's the time to pick up a card or two. Send a bunch to your favorite girlfriends...the ones who have stood by you through every relationship you've bumbled through, whether you're in one now or not. Or send one to your mom, because moms really do deserve all the affection they can get. Or, yes, pick one up for the guy who makes your heart feel fluttery, even though he'll think it's cheesy (there's even one below for that relationship at the awkward too-early-for-VDay-phase).
