Brows are in. Or they might even be over for all I know, but I'm still really into them. Around two years ago, right around the time "power brows" made a comeback, I discovered the Benefit Brow Bar. The brow bar can be found in department stores and beauty boutiques around the country where you can get your brows shaped by either tweezing or waxing. It's a great alternative to your local nail salon and they spend way more time figuring out your natural arches, what you actually want, and what flatters your face the most. Plus the waxing is almost pain free. I highly suggest it to anyone who is a recovering over-plucker or needs some brow rehab. For awhile I would go in to the brow bar armed with a picture of a young Brooke Shields, but recently I've found just saying Cara Delevingne does the trick since everyone is coveting her strong, full brows.
My routine of going to the brow bar was really taking my brows to great new places. But since I'm not as genetically blessed as Brooke and Cara I still didn't have the brows I wanted, so I had to fake it. I tried a variety of pencils, but always thought they gave me a drawn in look that I hated. I tried powders and quickly found out that I am not skilled enough before a cup of coffee to deal with powder. What I really wanted was something simple and easy that I couldn't mess up, which led me to "Gimme Brow" by Benefit Cosmetics. It was right in front of my nose, or brows, the entire time!
It's a gel that comes with a mascara like wand that you swipe over your eyebrows. The fiber gel sticks to your brow hairs, making them fuller and darker. It's incredibly easy to add to your makeup routine and now I can't leave the house without it. Plus it lasts all day and is water resistant.
Not many people, including my husband, really noticed the change- which is a good thing, but I definitely saw a difference in how my my face was framed. It's the natural, subtle change that you want from a brow enhancer - no one wants to look like they have obviously painted on their brows. You can see the difference yourself below. It fills in the sparse parts of my brow and also creates more of the arch I have been trying to achieve.
- If you have light hair make sure to get the light/medium shade of gel. When I had bleach blonde hair and tried my friend's medium/deep and I thought it looked crazy on me. It turns out that it was just the wrong shade for me. Now that I am growing out my natural hair color and my roots are dark, medium/deep works best.
- If you buy it at a brow bar ask for a some extra mascara wands. The gel clumps a little sometimes and I always use an extra wand to even everything out. If you buy it somewhere else and are brave enough to swipe a couple from the make up bar you also can do that, but if you are a wuss like me you can buy them here.
*Benefit Brow Bar's also offer free brow shaping on your birthday. We love a good birthday deal!
