Have you ever noticed that having fun can be a lot of work? I have these fantasies of whisking off for an adventure on a moment's notice...but the logistics - planning, figuring out timing, gathering what I need - usually bog me down. My husband and I have a total disorder about getting out the door. On a daily basis I get halfway down the stairs before realizing that I need to run back for my wallet, my cell phone, my shoes (seriously, I can be that forgetful), or more.
With summer in full swing now, it's seriously time for outdoor fun - I go totally nuts if I'm stuck in my apartment or a sticky city street on a beautiful sunny day. But this summer we don't have any long-term trips planned or any summer house to escape to. Instead, our plan is to cobble together summer-worthy outdoor time with weekend and day trips and adventures...which means lots of attempts at leaving the house. So I just bought two of these colorful lightweight totes from LLBean to make the getting-out-the-door process a little faster and easier. I had one labeled "BEACH" and one labeled "PARK" and pre-stocked them with essentials for each destination. I still run back for my keys, but at least I don't have to search under the couch cushions for the kadima paddle...
Here are some ideas for things to keep packed in your totes so you're ready for a lovely day on a moment's notice!
a portable radio (with a compartment to keep your phone or MP3 player dry!) / a couple of colorful towels / a cute pouch filled with my favorite safe and effective sunscreens from Honest Co & Bert's Bees / a pretty kadima set / a small cooler for a couple of snacks and bottles of water / a throw blanket to stake your turf
a journal for doodles or poetic thoughts / a leather pouch filled with natural bug spray and sensitive face sunscreen / a wine cooler...in case you pick up a cold bottle of rose along the way / a classic frisbee / a thick blanket for spreading out on the grass / a small wireless bluetooth-enabled speaker
