You know when you get a craving for something that you’ve only had at a restaurant, and as much as you try you can never recreate the dish at home? Well, for the past 3 years I've had a craving for Roberta's “Bee Sting” Pizza. The pizza is topped with soppressata and chile honey, and it's one of the best things I've ever eaten. But since I couldn't track down the Roberta's mobile oven and can never get into their always packed restaurant - I would go months and months, even a year, without having my craving satiated. And let me tell you, it - was - awful. It was the hot and sweet combination of the honey was what made this pizza so magical. Don't get me wrong, the rest of the pizza is pretty delicious too, but it was the honey I was craving.
Then, came Mike's Hot Honey to save the day. I was window shopping in my neighborhood at By Brooklyn, a store that sells all things made in Brooklyn, and saw this bottle in their display. I stopped dead in my tracks and purchased it immediately. I rushed home in hopes of getting my fix, stopping at my local pizza shop, of course. My husband and I poured the honey all over the slices and just like that I had my new favorite meal and my craving was cured! I should tell you now, I never really loved pizza like a New Yorker should, but now I am a converted pizza addict - as long as I have the hot honey.
Soon we started putting it on everything - chicken (fried chicken is the best), biscuits, avocado, and pretty much every cheese. I even just put it on some watermelon and it was delicious. During Passover, my husband really enjoyed the hot honey Matzo combo. I put it in my ginger tea in the mornings and it gives it an extra kick that really wakes me up. The best part about Mike's Hot Honey is how fun it can be to experiment with what to put it on. There have been some failings in our house (it didn't go great on our fish tacos), but most of our experiments have been successes. Its website lists a ton of pairings like peanut butter, grapefruit, cocktails and ice cream that I’ll be trying next!
Buy it at their website here. Trust me, It's good.
