It's tough to remember to drink water throughout the day, especially when you are running around at photo shoots all day like we are. Every morning we fill our cups with water at our studio, but often find them untouched by the end of the day. I started bringing a plastic water bottle in to work because I could easily carry it around and I liked drinking out of them, but I felt so guilty about the environmental impact and all the chemicals and toxins found in plastic. So began my hunt for an alternative that I enjoyed drinking out of as much as the plastic bottle. I found some made the water taste weird, some had giant openings for your mouth causing half the water to dribble down my chin and all were kind of...well...ugly.
The ladies, who founded bkr (pronounced beaker), had the same conundrum and, thankfully, made these adorable glass water bottles. They designed the mouth of a water bottle to be similar to the plastic ones, which is the perfect size. They wanted "something clean, clear, effortless, luxurious and beautiful - that wasn't made of plastic or metal, didn't have a huge mouth, and didn't feel like camping equipment." The bottles fit perfectly in our petite lady hands and have silicone sleeves that are super soft and "grippy." (To be honest, I am a little addicted to playing with the the top of my sleeve while I work on the computer.) The sleeves come in a variety of beautiful colors based on what's on the runway at the moment. Each of us ordered a different color for the studio so we never have to say, "is this my water or your water?" anymore. I picked "Crush," a light orangey color as my studio bottle and Jamie chose "Betty," a deep fuchsia.
I know hyping up a water bottle seems silly, but these water bottles are better than anything we've found and have seriously upped our water consumption. They are stylish, fun, chemical-free, eco-friendly, and since they are made of glass, the water just tastes better. But wait, the best part is....they are dishwasher friendly!! At the end of the day, you can just put them in on the top rack with the sleeve on! If you want to take the sleeve off here is a video from the founder on how to easily take it off on and on.
Not only are you treating yourself better and the environment better, but they also donate a portion of their proceeds to "initiatives that combat the global water crisis, empower tomorrow's leaders, and help in the fight against cancer." Hurrah!
