Inspired by a trip I was about to take to Hawaii, Marisa gave me this perfume oil for my birthday a few years ago, and I've been replacing it for myself each time I get to the last drop ever since, because I'm fully addicted. My daily whiff instantly transports me back to that idyllic destination. The scent includes young ginger, star anise, tuberose, green bamboo, and frangipani (that's this pretty flower, that Hawaiian girls tuck behind their ears). I am not a perfumery connoisseur by any means, but to me the scent seems musky and warm, but somehow still light and airy like a salty breeze. It evokes the dense, earthy foliage and the laid-back bohemian beach life of those magical islands. The lightness of the oil makes the fragrance subtle, not overpowering, which makes it an easy match for different people. I've caught numerous friends borrowing a dab during parties! Now that summer's almost here, you should try out a dab yourself - the oil sinks particularly nicely into sun-kissed skin.
Plus I love the idea of supporting this small-batch perfumery run by sisters in Brooklyn. Buy some here (it's waaay cheaper than a flight to Maui...)
