I love braids , all types of braids - milkmaid, french, mermaid, pigtails, side braids, crown braids - I love them all. They are my go to special occasion hairstyle....except I can't braid. Luckily, braid bars like this exist in the world so I still achieve the braids of my dreams (I even went there on my wedding day). But in my daily life I usually have to settle for mediocre, sloppy braids I do myself or force Jamie to do them for me (thanks j!). So I wasn't too hopeful when I saw pictures of the fishtail braid, which looked impossible for someone like me to create, but it turned out to be super easy. The fishtail braid can be elegantly dressed up for a wedding or casually, messy for an everyday look and will hold through a crazy dance party or busy workday...or both if you work in our office.
Here it is how to do it eight simple steps:
Step 1: Pull hair into side ponytail with a clear elastic.
Step 2: Split ponytail into 2 separate pieces
Step 3: Take a piece from the first side and pass it to the second side. The smaller pieces you grab the more fishtail-y it will look.
Step 4: Take a piece from the second side and pass it to the first side.
Step 5: Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until you reach the end.
Step 6: Tie end of the Braid with another elastic
Step 7: Carefully, cut the first elastic with a scissor.
Step 8: Pull apart the braid if you want a looser, more casual style.
Here are all 8 steps in a row:
