My initial thought on lip liner was - you mean I have to get a different lip liner to match each one of my lipsticks?! I have no time, moola or space in my tiny bathroom for that. In my mind, if I get out the door wearing lipstick, I'm ahead of the game. However, recently I started noticing that my lipstick would bleed and smudge around my lips and sometimes when I caught my reflection in the subway window, I looked more clownish than glamorous.
I had to do something, but I needed that something to be quick and easy. I knew the answer lied with my friend Julia, a fellow beauty product addict. We set a date for dinner and to stop by Sephora on the way - three hours later we were very hungry, but I held in my hand the solution to my problem and a too long receipt of other "solutions."
She told me that with my lackadaisical routine I didn't need to get a million lip liners and all I needed was one invisible liner that keeps any lipstick from running. After looking at a couple of options, I decided on Obsessive Compulsive Anti-Feathering lip liner. It glides on smoothly and clear-ish (the ish being a good thing because you can see where you are drawing and then it blends right into your skin). It keeps any lipstick color from feathering outside of the line you draw and It's only $16, which is a great deal compared to buying multiple lip liners. It's also vegan and cruelty free, a nice bonus!
The first night I used it, I was amazed how well it worked and how much better my lipstick looked. The liner is so easy to put on and since it's just one small pencil that works with any lipstick, it hardly takes up any space in my make up bag and I don't have to worry about matching lipstick and liner colors to each other. I was able to talk, eat, drink, smooch and generally be my not so graceful self and my lipstick stayed in place and never smudged above or below the invisible lines I drew. Magic!
Now all week I've been wondering why I didn't buy this sooner. I should probably go out and buy a new lipstick to celebrate....
